A few thoughts about these top 20 lists.  Don’t take them seriously – they don’t mean much in the scheme of things.  An active, engaged program, the willingness to be part of a community, to answer questions, to provide assistance – that’s the only metric that matters.

You don’t need thousands of followers to be successful.

    Ed:

Interesting and logical that Children’s hospitals are majority share, given social media’s applications to peds population. Makes Mayo and Cleveland’s visibility even more significant as the trend setters and rule breakers they so clearly are! They model for the rest of the acute care group.

    Thanks.

I agree. When researching Ed’s ‘Big’ List I had noticed that Children’s hospitals were more likely to have a Facebook page than other hospitals. At first I was surprised but when I thought about it made sense. Mothers have always been strong advocates for their children and seek out information and support. Parents of children already fall into that 20-40 age demographic already familiar with Facebook and so it is logical they would utilize a resource that is in its essence about gaining information and building relationships.
